How to Play Chords Higher on the Fret Board

In this video I will show you how to play chords higher on the neck versus playing open chords. You will also have a better understanding of chord theory to further your knowledge. There is something for every type of player, from beginner to advanced players!

These are the tabs you will see in the video that will help you, click here.

The most frequently asked question I get is:

What are the chords played higher on the neck that I see? It looks like they are playing only a few strings instead of the open chords.

In this video we will be starting off talking about the G Chord and D minor chord and their different variations.

How do we apply these?

We need to take the chord shapes I showed you and apply them to a chord progression. The chord progression in the video was G major, E minor, A minor, D major and G major. By using those shapes we went over before you can create new chord voicings for this progression.

Now let’s take this concept and apply it for advanced players.

Any permutations of the three original notes of the chord (G B D) for G major can be put in order to make a viable G major chord. In the examples you will see how I stretched all three notes in interesting ways but still only made a G major chord.
